The U.S was able to do so because they had far stronger military force than the inhabitants of the islands they took over.
ReplyDeleteAmerican imperalism-led three nations to the brink of war
ReplyDeleteImperialism was driven by a need for markets and raw materials as well as the desire for power and prestige. We wanted Hawaii to get to China, and Hawaii was halfway between U.S. and China. Aided by efficient machines and abundant capital, workers in the industrial nations produced for more goods than could be consumed at home. To protect new markets from competition, industrialized nations tried to colonize some areas; Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The Hawaiian Islands lie in the Pacific Ocean some 2,000 miles west of California. It was a good place to build naval places and coaling stations for ships traveling to and from Asia. The ships that were arriving in Hawaii brought missionaries, settlers, and traders. in 1886, lots of Americans formed the secret Hawaiian League. Their goal was to overthrow the monarchy and persuade the U.S. to annex Hawaii. The trade between China and U.S. began in 1784. Japan attacked and seized China's Liaotung Peninsula and the large island of Taiwan and gained influence over Korea.

In the new code of laws which I suppose it will be necessary for you to make I desire you would remember the ladies...if particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies we...will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice, or Representation. That was a really serious letter to her husband.

At the age of 13 she went to work as a domestic servant and also at the age of 13 she married William Hays. I find her a very courageous person, because it takes courage, determination and heart to go take water to the soldiers in battle and take her husband’s spot loading cannons when he got injured.
James Forten was a 14-year-old who was a free African American. He was born on September 2, 1766. Lord Dunmore or John Murray was a distant but direct descendant of royalty. He was born in 1732. He was made governor in 1770; his first act was to get rid of the Virgina Assembly. He wrote Lord Dunmore’s proclamation on November 7, 1775. He returned to England and died in 1809. ReplyDeleteBuildings in these cities directly and indirectly served Roman power. A building type known as the basilica served administrative functions. The basilica acted like a town hall or court house in American cities. The so-called Basilica Ulpian constructed by the Emperor Trajan at the beginning of the second century AD can be used to exemplify this category of building. The Greek and Roman societies influence the modern world in architecture, bringing forth the gods/goddesses, and tools and weapons. Today, Greek and Roman Architecture can be seen throughout the world today from our roads to the shape of an arch prominently found in tunnels and houses. The Roman and Greek world influenced our modern world in many ways. For one the Greek world not only influenced but created theater and all its features. Like Drama was and is a big part of our world, and we might not have had it if it weren’t for Greeks. Another one that I use every day is comedy. It’s not the same as the way they use it but it’s advancement from it.
ReplyDeleteThe Roman World had a different kind of contribution to the modern world. They created all kinds of magnificent art. This gave many artists their passion for art. Another contribution is their way of war. The Romans came up with some of the greatest combat strategies of all time which we use to this very day.
American Imperialism is America's quest for colonial empires. America wanted Hawaii in this quest because Hawaii was a midpoint between the United States and China. Hawaii was also a good place to build naval bases and coaling stations for ships traveling to and from Asia.
ReplyDeleteIn 1980, Congress enacted the McKinley Tariff, which created a crisis by ending Hawaii's favored position in the sugar trade. The law permitted all countries to ship sugar duty-free to the United States. It also gave sugar producers in the United States a subsidy- a government bonus payment- of 2 cents per pound. This caused sugar prices to drop, and the Hawaiin economy to suffer. This was the beginning of huge conflicts between the people.
imperialism made the u.s. good in some ways and bad in some ways like good was gettin Hawaii because that was the halfway point between Japan and u.s. but imperialism was bad to because it gave people to much power and it starte3d wars. When the wars started the u.s wanted to stop it might stop the trade routes
ReplyDeleteAmerican Imperialism and the Impact on other Countries.
ReplyDeleteAmerican Imperialism is Americas quest for colonial empires. America wanted to expand even on the little colonies like hawii. Imperialism was driven by a need for markets and raw materials as well as the desire for power and prestige. They would do this to produce goods. Imperialism led the British, German, and U.S. to the brink of war. America at the time made firends with China by giving them a model train and a telegraph machine wich soon from the technology given was able to trade with China. They then finally came up with the spheres of influence. This allowed ports to trade goods with other countries. Then Japan showed its good's to be worth of trade America wanted to trade with Japan so in fear of loosing that ability they sent Matthew Perry to persuade japan to open its doors to trade with the west.
Victor Konarik
American Imperialism affected the rest of the world by desiring Power and materials and such. Industrialists turned to Africa, Asia and Latin America for new supplies. Denator Henry Cabot Lodge explained that the United States needed to join this to maintain its economic and military strength.
ReplyDeleteAmerican enthusiasm for overseas expansion grew as industrial production sirged in the late 1800's.
Hawaii was interested in imperial powers. So of course we wanted it, because it was halfway between the U.S. and China. So it was a good resting point for travelers and sailors. when we first got there we noticed that they were very incivilized people who needed to be introduced to the industrialization of the modern world and Christianity. Became the 50th state in 1959.
China (Totally new topic)offically opened 5 ports so it would be easier to trade with the Americas. For the next 50 years China rulers struggled to keep forigners out.
The open door Policy made in 1899 by Secretary John Hay, the policy made it legal for all nations to access trade in China
Imperialism was any nations quest for a colonial empires. Colonial empires provide expanded maekets and raw materials. it also increased a nations power in a certain region, such as european nations having control of Africa. American Imperialism started when the US annexed Hawaii. Hawaaii provided an importent stop for our merchant fleet as it sailed to Japan and China. American imperialism served to give the US power but it also led to several armed conflicts. Such as the boxer rebellion in China, where a group of locals were attempting to drive foreigners off of there land. The attempt was unsuccessful but it did show the dangers of imperialism. The United States would annex several countries and this would provide ports, natural resources and area's of trade. It did however bring us into conflict with many other nations such as the Spanish-American war. The effects of imperialism was the spread of culture and religion, the increase of American power through obtaining natural resources and territory and also several armed conflicts.
ReplyDeleteamerican imperalism is a mission to gain more colonies America was really involved in this in the late 1800`s. I think the reason they did it is was what every country always wants, more power. Every country always wants more and at the time the United States was a new world power looking to expand. The united states didn`t gain much land in their quest for imperalism but, it still made a major diffrence. Think about it if the u.s. never annexed hawaii then pearl harbor never happens and who knows maybe the United states never enters world war 2 and hundreds of thousands anericans maybe keep their life. The U.s. also claimed cuba as a Territory. The united states also opened their trade up more. They began trading heavly with china and japan. China tried to oppose this but, the u.s. passed the opeb door policy which opened ports to all nations not just the major countries.
ReplyDeleteImperialism was the quest for colonial powers. it was driven by a need for markets and raw materials as well as a desire for power and prestige. Industrial nations produced for more goods than what could be consumer at home. In response, industrialists turned to Africa, Asia, and latin America for new consumers and new sources of raw material. To protect these new markets from competition, industrialized nations tried to colonize the areas. American enthusiasn for over seas expansion grew as industrial production surged in the late 1800's. Supporters of expansion claimed that the united States had a duty to spread its political system and the Christian religion throughout the world. President William McKinley annexed Hawaii despite the opposition of most of Hawaii's population furthering America's quest for imperialism.
ReplyDeleteAmerican imperialism was the quest for colonial empires. The imperialist was something that brought many nations to war or seizing control over many. They had many problems, power, prestige, trading, fighting, taking control, and competitiion.
ReplyDeleteMany of the nations had power and prestige. Whenever it came to markets and raw materials. They were consuming a lot of goods and had plenty of it. Once they had a load of goofds they, industrialists looked to other countries for raw materials. There was lots of competing in the market.
Then comes in the military and war. Some people wanted to join their strengths because he though the smaller states had no chance against the larger states. He wanted a successful future for everyone.
It had many affects on our world backi then and even today in our modern world. U really think that seizing those vast areas didn't make anything better for the poeple though. But there to me was a lot of hatred and scandalism. A lot of people were just looking out for theirselves. There were very influential people in that time that wanted victories. I really think that history made people stronger today!
American imperialism:
ReplyDeleteThe quest for colonial empires, and policy of extending power of a nation by gaining control over the political and economic life.
Effects on the rest of the world, this affect some countries but the most important are hawaii and china Us wanted to won the control of hawaii because they needed the sugar, and a place to stop to get supplies and go to their destiny. Hawaii was valuable to the US because they can stop there. With hawaii they can trade with japan and china.
Imperalism is the practice vor policy of ectending power of a nation by direct territorial acqusation or by gaining inderict control over the political and economic life.
ReplyDeleteImpiralism was drivin by andee for markets and raw material as wall as thedesir for powr and prestige. The effects of this, made workers in an industrial nation preduce more goods than can be consumed at home
Imperialism means to quest for colonial empires. The empires had led these there nations to the brink of war. The factor's that drove imperialism were market's, raw matierals, Desire for power and desire for prestige. Protestant missionaries from New England traveled to the islands to convert Hawaii's land and trade. Treaty exempted Hawaiian sugar from U.S. tariffs. U.S. officials demanded control of Pearl Harbor in exchange for renewing tax-free status for Hawaiian sugar. The league forced Kalakaua at gunpoint to sign a new constitution that limited his role to that of a figurehead.
ReplyDeleteThe Greeks and the Romans have influenced our modern day world a great deal. They have given us many great things that have let us to discover the wonderful things that we have today. One of the many things that they have given us is the design of the road. Without their great idea we could possibly be without roads today. Another thing that they have given us is architecture, such as the arch. They have also made many great advances in weaponry. Without their battle skills we most likely wouldn’t be where we are today. We have definitely grown as a country thanks to all of the discoveries that the Greeks and the Romans have made.
ReplyDeleteThe Greco-Roman World did a lot of writing so we influenced it from them. We also still have the Olympics games here but they are a bit different from the Greco-Roman World. We got our ideas from their ancient battles for our modern wars. They had Athens and Spartans but we have soldiers. We also got their ideas about the Roman road but we use different materials then what they used.
ReplyDeleteI think that the Greco-Romans influenced us a lot. It influenced us by architecture such as the arch, and many of the old buildings. Their architecture influenced us because our architecture has grown tremendously since those days. They helped us by leaving us hints to help us making our world a lot better because we can build more stuff and make it structured better. Also, they made up mythical stories for us to learn about and learn about how they explained things that they couldn’t really understand. Their stories led us to believe that whatever they couldn’t understand they gave it Greek gods and goddesses. They also helped us learn about things about their religion and their way of life.
ReplyDeleteBoth Greeks and Romans had an influence on our modern world. The Roman’s have a huge influence on our architecture. The arch is the most famous. Their war strategies are also very influential. The Olympics were created by the Romans for Zeus and, although they have changed tremendously, they are still around.
ReplyDeleteThe Greeks influence us greatly with their mythology. We study books about mythology, the gods and goddesses of Mt. Olympus and participate in our own “Olympics” during the unit. Our writing has evolved from theirs. Our art today is based on the art from the early Greeks. There are many paintings of the gods and goddesses.
There were many ways that the Greek and Roman empires influenced our world today. Anything from Political systems to Olympic games to mythology. One main thing that was affected by the Greco-Roman world was our roads; the way they built there roads was brought here to the Americas and has been getting more and more bigger and better. They also helped with there war ideas. I think we also probably got some of our ideas about God from their many Gods and Goddesses. We also hold Olympic games now and they are based off of what the Romans help. And there are many more things also influenced us.
ReplyDeleteMathematics because if they didn’t discover math we wouldn’t have technology or any sort of construction. Like we wouldn’t have iphones or any phones to call or text someone or buildings to work at or go to school, and computers to do homework or blogs so I wouldn’t be able to type this blog if they didn’t discover math.
ReplyDeleteThe Greek and Rome influenced today’s modern day world. Also war strategies that won them many wars.

Literature- without the Greco-Roman mythology many other stories would have never of been created like the Iliad and the Odyssey. Even stories created today like Percy Jackson and the Olympians which was very popular among the younger group and became very successful.
ReplyDeleteGreeks and Romans played a major role in our modern world. They influenced us through religion, forms of writing, art, weapons, tools, and architecture. All of these can be seen today architecture: roads and buildings; writing: in books; art: paintings; and tools: for farming and agriculture.
ReplyDeleteThe Greek and Romans had a large influence on our modern world. Their advanced architecture influenced the way we build things today. Their advancements in math and technology are the reasons we're so advanced today. They also developed greek mythology, something we continue to learn about. Without them we would not have the Olympics or be as developed in our road systems. Greeks and Romans greatly influenced our current world in many ways.
ReplyDeleteThe contributions of the Roman World to the Modern World include the Arch that we still use in architecture. Another is Roman Catholicism; a religion that currently has about 77.7 members just in the United States. A third contribution is Roman art. Many people visit Rome all the time to look at the beautiful statues and buildings. One Greek contribution is the mythology, children learn it from young ages and until the end of high school and you can take college courses just over Greek Mythology. Clothing is another influence; Nike was a goddess who personified victory, now Nike is a huge athletic company.

During the renaissence architects trained as humanists helped raise the status of their profession from skilled laborer to artist. They hoped to create structures that would appeal to both emotion and reason.
ReplyDeleteThey made different ideas using ones they already had. like arces and domes they made many architecture structures.
From 1789 to 1797 George Washington was our first President. He was a good one in fact from what I hear. He fought in the American Revolution. What President fight in the war not me if it was me but he did.
